Director, Medical Affairs Strategy - HIV Prevention

We are looking for a highly motivated Medical Affairs Director who is passionate about HIV prevention and Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). Candidate must be a self-starter with a proven track record of success in prior roles. They will play a critical and exciting role in helping the US Medical Affairs organization support current HIV prevention therapies and potentially launch future HIV prevention pipeline products, with a focus on injectable PrEP.

The Medical Affairs Director, HIV Prevention, will report directly to the Executive Director for US HIV Prevention. The successful candidate will contribute to Gilead’s HIV prevention strategy in the US and work cross-functionally with US and Global teams to ensure execution of the USMA HIV Prevention POA.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

  • Monitor and understand the rapidly changing HIV prevention landscape, including the role of varied PrEP delivery methods

  • Assist with potential l PrEP launch planning and execution

  • Work with both the US strategy team and medical field directors to ensure the POA and launch plan is executed as envisioned

  • Ensure medical field teams have necessary tools to execute the local POA and launch plan as envisioned, including appropriate digital tools and educational assets

  • Gather and relay feedback from the field to the Strategy Lead to incorporate into future strategic plans

  • Capture insights systematically, both internal and external, and translate these insights into actionable activities

  • As product expert, serves as a key contributor and knowledge expert for HIV prevention and PrEP for multiple internal and external stakeholders

  • Work with the global medical HIV prevention and treament teams to review, update, and provide insight into Medical Affairs slide decks, local and global HIV Prevention response documents, and all digital assests

  • Leads US-focused medical training documents and digital assests as needed to support the medical field teams

  • Works collaboratively with the medical field teams, Medical Information, Clinical Research, Clinical Pharmacology and Commercial teams to support responses to medical inquiries and slide development

  • Supports both US and Global advisory programs, as needed

  • Support the implementation of medical affairs strategies and tactics for HCPs including medical educational activities, grants and investigator-sponsored/collaborative studies and adjust tactical execution as needed

  • Act in a leadership role to strategically plan for medical conferences

  • Independently manage projects related to the analysis of novel, emerging data and determine relevant information to incorporate into medical content training

  • Partner cross functionally with Legal, Commercial, Clinical, Regulatory, and Public and Government Affairs, to lead cross-functional projects as needed

  • Support US PrEP commercial marketing team with strategic and medical insight prior to Promotional Review Committee review

  • Provide recommendations for resource allocation to adjust accordingly

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years’ experience OR master’s degree and 10 years’ experience OR PhD and 8 years’ experience

  • MD, DO, NP, PA, PharmD, or other advanced health care degree preferred

  • Relevant work experience in the delivery of clinical services for HIV treatment and/or prevention required

  • 5 years of pharmaceutical industry or related experience required

  • Experience in the provision of, medical information, slide development, medical writing, and project and conference management required

  • Experience in digital or distance education required

  • Excellent verbal, written, visual communication, and interpersonal skills are required, with experience in vendor contracting and preparing budgets, misc. Excel spreadsheets, and delivering PowerPoint presentations

  • Proven strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to utilize moderately complex scientific resources across a variety of different settings

  • Ability to work collaboratively and experience working on cross-functional teams

  • Ability to travel as required which may include occasional weekend travel, is required

  • Ability to flex and adapt as necessary in response to ongoing growth and change within the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant clinical experience in HIV

  • Experienced with patient-centric care desired

  • Committed to continuing education to maintain a knowledge base
