Associated Director Data & AI Delivery Lead – Clinical Development

As part of the enterprise AI strategy, the Data & AI Delivery Lead for Clinical Development drives end-to-end technical delivery of AI/ML solutions supporting clinical operations, data management, safety, and regulatory domains. This role bridges business needs with technical execution and ensures delivery of scalable, high-quality AI solutions.

You will drive technical excellence in our tailored AI solutions through hands-on architecture decisions, code quality standards and advanced analytics methodologies, delivering measurable impact to clinical development users from concept to scaled release.

This position will report to the Data/AI, Clinical Development Lead and is based in Foster City, CA (hybrid-eligible).

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery including timeline and technical quality of Clinical Development AI use case solutions from ideation through production

  • Apply product-centric approach with clear ownership, roadmaps, and user adoption metrics

  • Manage Agile delivery including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and releases

  • Oversee the development of scalable solutions using Databricks, AWS, and Gilead ‘s Data & AI enterprise platforms

  • Manage sprint planning, backlog prioritization and release schedules, extending into continuous improvement as both needs and the solution landscape evolves

  • Lead hybrid technical delivery teams, drawing on technical experts within and beyond the team

  • Facilitate technical problem solving across clinical development domains

  • Shape technical standards for research data models, storage and automation workflows

  • Maintain technical documentation and runbooks for Clinical Development data pipelines and agents; Serve as escalation point for technical risks and delivery blockers

  • Ensure integration with enterprise data platforms and reusable components

  • Define and enforce technical standards for AI/ML and data pipelines

  • Maintain documentation and operational runbooks

  • Monitor product performance & drive continuous improvement towards quantifiable targets; Track delivery, performance, and adoption metrics

  • Manage vendor relationships and co-sourced delivery teams

  • Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and regulatory requirements (GxP)

Key Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years or Master’s with 8+ years relevant experience

  • Experience leading AI/ML delivery programs in Agile environments

  • Hands-on experience in data engineering, data science, or architecture

  • Strong understanding of AI/ML architectures and cloud platforms

  • Experience in clinical development (trial ops, data management, safety) preferred

  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills

  • Product-centric mindset with focus on value realization

Optional Differentiators

  • Experience in clinical AI/ML use cases

  • Experience in GxP regulated environments

  • Exposure to generative AI applications

  • Familiarity with clinical systems such as EDC and regulatory platforms


The salary range for this position is: $195,670.00 - $253,220.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
