Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Manager (Product Owner), R&D Information Systems to support a portfolio of Technical Development digital solution areas. This role translates scientific workflows and stakeholder needs into clear, build-ready requirements; maintains a practical roadmap and prioritized backlog; and coordinates cross-functional delivery through partnership and influence. The role works closely with TechDev scientists, Data Science, IT/platform teams, Quality, and other stakeholders to deliver impactful, supportable solutions that improve scientific workflows across biologics and small molecule development. Early focus areas may include ELN and lab platform expansion, lab digitalization, materials/sample management, workflow automation, and the integration of computational capabilities into day-to-day scientific work.
Job Responsibilities
Work with lab and data scientists, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand current scientific workflows, define future-state processes, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, data quality, and user experience.
Embed AI, data science, modeling, automation, and other computational approaches into digital workflows where they improve scientific work, usability, or data-driven ways of working.
Translate scientific and operational needs into clear solution artifacts, including process flows, epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, data/integration requirements, and UAT plans.
Maintain the roadmap and prioritized backlog for assigned digital solutions, balancing organizational impact, user value, scientific rigor, timelines, risk, and technical complexity.
Guide delivery teams and working groups by clarifying priorities, dependencies, acceptance criteria, release readiness, and issue resolution.
Partner with TechDev Data Science, IT, Quality, Digital Operations, and other groups across Gilead so solutions are integrated, supportable, fit for intended use, and aligned with data and compliance expectations.
Identify opportunities to reuse requirements, workflow patterns, data definitions, and solution approaches across related TechDev initiatives to reduce duplication and improve consistency.
Coordinate user validation, rollout planning, training and communication needs, adoption feedback loops, and impact tracking for assigned capabilities.
Support AI-enabled solution areas in line with Gilead’s Responsible AI requirements and governance processes, including risk-based assessment, clear accountability, appropriate oversight, and safeguards that help protect patients, employees, data, and Gilead.
Basic Qualifications
BA/BS with 8+ years of relevant experience; MA/MS/MBA with 6+ years of relevant experience; or PhD with relevant scientific, technical, informatics, or business systems experience.
Experience in product ownership, business process analysis, solution delivery, data platforms, scientific workflow solutions, or technical systems implementation in a lab-based environment.
Experience supporting pharmaceutical development, Technical Development, CMC, laboratory informatics, ELN, sample/materials management, workflow automation, data-enabled workflows, or adjacent scientific domains.
Ability to translate complex scientific or operational workflows into clear requirements, process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, and UAT plans.
Clear communication and stakeholder partnership skills, including the ability to synthesize complex technical and scientific topics and support alignment across diverse audiences.
Experience coordinating cross-functional delivery through partnership and influence, including work with business SMEs, IT/platform teams, engineering, Quality, Data Science, and operations partners.
Working knowledge of data and integration concepts relevant to scalable digital solutions, including APIs, metadata, identifiers, data quality, and system boundaries.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience integrating data science, data-enabled, AI-enabled, or computational capabilities into scientific or operational workflows.
Experience developing reusable requirements templates, business process standards, or working practices across related solution areas.
Experience working in GMP-adjacent environments, including fit-for-purpose documentation, intended-use clarity, and change control expectations.
