Job Description

Gilead is seeking a highly strategic and collaborative communications leader to join the Global Public Affairs team as Associate Director, Oncology Communications. This individual will play an important role in advancing the above-brand narrative across Gilead Oncology and Kite, in close partnership with team leadership, while driving thought leadership and supporting global product communications within the oncology portfolio.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape and amplify the broader oncology story across two industry-leading organizations, while working within a highly collaborative, cross-functional team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner on the development and execution of the above-brand oncology narrative across Gilead Oncology and Kite, working closely with internal team members to ensure consistency and impact across internal and external communications
  • Contribute to and help execute thought leadership strategies, including executive visibility, storytelling, and key reputation-building moments
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders across Commercial, Medical, R&D, Government Affairs, and Patient Advocacy to ensure aligned and integrated communications planning
  • Support global product communications within the oncology portfolio, including milestone communications, data presentations, regulatory updates, and issue management
  • Work in close partnership with the Senior Director of Product Communications for Oncology to ensure alignment across product and franchise communications
  • Identify opportunities to connect corporate, franchise, and product narratives to strengthen Gilead’s and Kite’s leadership in oncology
  • Coordinate across global and regional teams to support consistent, high-quality messaging and execution.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience OR master's degree and 8 years of experience. PR agency experience preferred
  • Significant experience in communications, public affairs, or a related field, preferably within biopharma and/or oncology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute integrated, strategic communications plans across complex, matrixed organizations
  • Strong understanding of scientific and clinical communications, with experience translating data and evidence into compelling narratives
  • Proven ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and influence senior stakeholders
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, and executive communications skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail


The salary range for this position is:

Bay Area: $182,070.00 - $235,620.00.


Other US Locations: $165,495.00 - $214,170.00.


Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
