Gilead Sciences is seeking a talented and highly motivated Sr Associate Scientist to join our Inflammation group. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate is expected to be lab-based and to contribute to the discovery, research, and development of novel immunotherapeutic agents to address unmet medical needs of inflammatory diseases including atopic dermatitis, SLE, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory diseases. They will support projects across discovery research and into early development on multidisciplinary project teams. The successful candidate will participate as an engaged member of a collaborative department with diverse research interests. They will also independently design and execute experiments to advance our understanding of disease biology. They will have opportunities for career growth through acquisition of new skills, experiences, and professional relationships in a fast-paced and resource-rich environment. This role will sit in our Foster City, CA HQ.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing and executing scientific research for the discovery of drug targets, the development of drug candidates, and the identification and validation of drug combinations.

  • Independently designs, conducts, analyzes in vitro and in vivo experiments to support the initiation and/or advancement of drug candidates.

  • Contribute to the preparation of research reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, INDs, and patent filings.

  • Applies advanced level of understanding project goals and methods.

  • Selects appropriate methods and techniques in performing experiments.

  • Collaborates with supervisory personnel to develop research methods.

  • Presents results of work, interprets data, and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work.

  • Acts as a resource for other employees within the department.

  • Uses strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to communicate objectives and results.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Five Years’ Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Three Years’ Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 9+ years of experience with BS degree in a related scientific discipline.

  • 8+ years of experience with MS degree in a related scientific discipline.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a background in immunology and previous working experience in inflammatory diseases

  • Proficient in immune cell culture; multi-color flow cytometric analysis; transfection / transduction / CRISPR of primary cells and cell lines; quantification of protein (Luminex, MSD, ELISA) and RNA in immune cells and tissues.

  • Prior experience with tissue processing and analysis in preclinical mouse models of autoimmunity is preferred

  • Computer literacy, especially proficiency with GraphPad Prism, Excel, PowerPoint and Word

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment

  • The ability to work independently on day-to-day responsibilities and research goals
