Job Description

The Senior Manager: Supply Chain for Global Logistics will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the financial integrity, governance, and operational control of pharmaceutical inventory across internal facilities and global third-party logistics partners. The role integrates deep inventory management expertise with strong accounting and internal control accountability in a SOX regulated environment, bolstered by a strong command of outsourced contract logistics and a proven record of driving effective supplier relationships on a global scale. The position serves as a critical liaison across Supply Chain, Finance, and Quality. This role will sit in La Verne, CA.


Knowledge:
Inventory Control & Governance

  • Own end-to-end inventory control processes for raw materials, API, Drug Product, Britestock, Finished Goods, and clinical inventory.

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce inventory-related SOPs, policies, and internal controls in compliance with SOX and GxP requirements.

  • Ensure proper segregation of duties, approval workflows, and documentation for all inventory transactions.

  • Maintain inventory integrity across Gilead’s ERP and warehouse management systems.

Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Inventory Oversight

  • Serve as the primary owner of inventory governance for all inventory held at Global Logistic’s third-party logistics providers.

  • Review and validate inventory reports from 3PLs, including receipts, shipments, transfers, adjustments, cycle counts, and destruction activities.

  • Ensure 3PL partners comply with contractual inventory reporting requirements, internal controls, and regulatory standards.

  • Lead discrepancy investigations with 3PLs, including root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).

Quarterly Inventory Reconciliation

  • Lead and execute quarterly inventory reconciliations between:

  • ERP/system of record

  • 3PL inventory and movement reports

  • Identify, analyze, and resolve inventory variances related to timing, valuation, shrinkage, expiry, damage, or process gaps.

  • Prepare detailed reconciliation schedules, variance explanations, and management review documentation.

  • Coordinate and validate physical and cycle counts conducted by 3PLs, including count procedures, results review, and formal sign-off.

Financial Accounting & Close Support

  • Partner Finance to support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities related to inventory.

  • Partner with Finance to create reserves for excess and obsolete inventory, and write-offs for expired or destroyed product.

  • Provide inventory data and analysis for forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning.

SOX Compliance & Audit

  • Own inventory-related SOX controls, including control design, documentation, testing, and remediation.

  • Perform and review control activities related to inventory transactions, reconciliations, and reporting.

  • Support internal, external, and regulatory audits by providing inventory documentation, reconciliations, and walkthroughs.

  • Address audit findings and implement corrective actions to strengthen inventory controls and compliance.

Regulatory & Quality Compliance

  • Ensure compliance regulatory requirements related to pharmaceutical inventory handling, traceability, and record retention.

  • Maintain accurate lot, batch, serialization, and expiry tracking across systems and 3PLs.

  • Partner with Quality and Regulatory teams to support inspections and audits involving inventory.

Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Act as subject matter expert for inventory-related ERP and WMS functionality.

  • Lead or support system implementations, enhancements, and integrations with 3PL partners.

  • Develop and maintain inventory KPIs and dashboards (e.g., inventory accuracy, reconciliation status, write-offs, audit findings).

  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inventory accuracy, visibility, and control effectiveness.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop inventory analysts or managers as applicable.

  • Collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Commercial, and Finance teams.

  • Communicate inventory risks, trends, and performance metrics to senior leadership.

Skills & Competencies

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Eight Years’ Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Six Years’ Experience

OR

Ph.D.

Preferred Qualifications & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, Business, or related field

  • 6–12+ years of progressive experience in inventory management, inventory accounting, or supply chain finance.

  • Direct experience managing pharmaceutical inventory held at third-party logistics providers.

  • Strong hands-on experience with SOX compliance, including control design, documentation, and audit support.

  • Advanced knowledge of inventory accounting and financial controls.

  • Strong understanding of outsourced contract logistics and a proven track record in supplier relationship management at a global level.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, or life sciences industries.

  • Working knowledge of GMP, GDP, FDA/EMA regulations, and audit requirements.

  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar.

  • Prior experience serving as an audit lead or primary audit contact for inventory-related processes.

  • Proficient in SAP S/4 Hana.

The salary range for this position is: $143,225.00 - $185,350.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
