Gilead has an opportunity for a Scientist in the Cell Line Development (CLD) group at our Foster City campus facility. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead the design and execution of pipeline and development projects to support cell line development for our rapidly growing biologics pipeline. The successful candidate will contribute to the overall strategy of new technology development projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and independently execute end-to-end Cell Line Development (CLD) activities, from vector design to generation of clonal cell lines ready for Master Cell Bank generation.
  • Serve as a scientific lead and functional representative in cross-functional CMC and Process Development teams, contributing to strategy and execution.
  • Drive innovation in CLD workflows by evaluating and implementing new technologies, automation, and high-throughput screening platforms
  • Author and review technical documentation, regulatory submissions, and batch records with a focus on compliance, scalability, and quality.
  • Mentor junior scientists and contribute to departmental knowledge sharing and capability building.
  • Support tech transfer, cell banking, and characterization activities with a strong understanding of GMP and regulatory expectations.

Basic Qualifications:

6+ Years with BS
OR
4+ Years with MS
OR
0+ Years with PhD/PharmD

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline with limited or no industry experience, or BS/MS with 6+/4+ years of relevant industry experience, respectively
  • Proven track record of independently leading scientific projects and contributing to cross-functional development teams.
  • Expertise in CHO cell culture, protein production (mAbs, multi-specifics, fusion proteins), and CLD best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex biological systems and optimize processes.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Spotfire) and experience with statistical design of experiments (DoE).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence and collaborate across functions.
  • Demonstrated motivation, adaptability, and a continuous improvement mindset
