Job Description

Specific Job Requirements

  • This position reports to the Liver Director, Medical Affairs Japan.

  • The Medical Scientist (MS) provides scientific and medical guidance across the product life cycle, in close collaboration with Japan Medical Affairs, Global/Asia Medical Affairs, and other key functions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Establish effective working relationships with liver KOLs and other key external stakeholders and be recognized as an innovative and valued partner in improving quality of care for liver disease and PBC patients.

  • Plan and execute KOL engagement activities for PBC pre-launch initiatives.

  • Manage regular communication with liver and PBC KOLs and clinical trial investigators to provide medical guidance and more extensive background, additional data, or answers to questions in response to issues that arise relative to commercial, scientific or data needs.

  • Engage with KOLs to discuss ISR and collaborative study proposals, and propose and manage studies in alignment with the Plan of Action (POA), in close collaboration with Global Medical Affairs.

  • Attend major conferences and coordinate medical affairs activities (ex. KOL meetings and advisory board meeting).

  • Manage his/her projects to completion, anticipating obstacles and difficulties that may arise, resolving them in a collaborative manner.

  • Ensure that all interactions and activities in Japan adhere to corporate compliance guidance/rules and industry code of conduct and responses to unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information.

Qualifications: Education and Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Japanese and English, with excellent judgment and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Hands-on mindset, with effective use of external resources to achieve objectives.

  • High learning agility.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in life sciences (PhD, PharmD, or MD), with relevant clinical and/or research experience.

  • Experience in Medical Affairs (e.g., MS/MSL) or R&D within the liver disease area.

  • Demonstrated leadership in ambiguous or rapidly changing situations.

  • Project management skills.
