Role Overview:

Master Data Governance refers to the process of managing and maintaining master data in a consistent, accurate, and reliable manner across the Gilead organization. It involves establishing rules, policies, roles and workflows to ensure the quality, integrity and lifecycle management of material data. Master Data typically includes critical information about materials used in an organization, such as descriptions, part numbers, unit of measure, supplier data, plant-specific details, costing information, and more. This data is foundational for processes across procurement, manufacturing, inventory management, sales, and finance. This role will responsible for establishing the end to end linkages for master data between different process areas, and different systems.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Able to develop solutions to a wide range of complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Able to create written communication that is properly structured providing clear, concise messages that draw well supported conclusions
  • Strong negotiations skills
  • Good organization and time management skills, including working knowledge of basic project management tools and techniques
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior management
  • In depth understanding and application of relevant principles, concepts, practices, and standards, along with an in depth knowledge of industry practices

Responsibilities include:

Data Standards and Policies: Establish clear rules of how master data should be created, updated and managed. For example:

  • Naming conventions
  • Data fields required for each material type
  • Approval processes for creating new materials

Data Quality Management: Ensuring accuracy, completeness, consistency, and uniqueness of master data. Tools and checks can identify duplicate of incomplete records.

  • Create Data Quality Rules, build dashboards by material types to measure the data quality
  • Build Data Dictionary at an attribute level that defines ownership of each attribute
  • Establish the attributes that should have LOV. Once identified, ensure LOV’s follow data standards that have been established

Define Roles and Responsibilities: Define who is responsible for:

  • Creating and approving master data records
  • Ensuring compliance with data policies
  • Auditing data accuracy and updates

Build Data Lineage: Data lineage is crucial in data governance because it provides a clear view of the origin, transformation, movement, and consumption of data across an organization. It helps stakeholders understand how data flows through systems, processes, and business operations, ensuring data quality, trust, and compliance.

  • Document the Origin, transformation, movement and consumption of all the master data attributes in boundary systems and across SAP
  • Integrate with data catalogs to provide contextual metadata
  • Assess the impact of new data requirements agnostic of the system

Process for Data Migration / Industry Standards: Document the process for data migration in case of a divesture/acquisition:

  • Standard process to be followed when data is being migrated from legacy system to new platforms
  • Document new requirements to comply with industry standards such as IDMP etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate and 5+ years of relevant experience OR
  • Master’s and 8+ years of relevant experience OR
  • Bachelor’s and 10+ years of relevant experience OR

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in pharmaceutical operations/cGMP environment highly desirable
  • Experience with Data Standards and Policies, Data Quality Management, Process for Data Migration / Industry Standards
