Sr Director, Market Access Strategy -- Trade & Operations

As the SD, Market Access Strategy; Trade & Operations, you are responsible for leading cross-portfolio and above brand efforts across all brands to ensure strategic alignment and execution of Gilead’s channel strategies and distribution networks, impacting in-line and pipeline assets. Additionally, you will oversee and lead the development of new product channels and modifications based on ongoing market dynamics, including identification of market disruptors and new evolving channel players.

You will report to the Executive Director, Market Access Strategy & Insights. This role will sit in Foster City, CA or Parsippany, NJ.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional efforts and alignment to drive strategy across the US portfolio, working cross-functionally with Therapeutic Area Market Access strategy, Account Teams, Government Affairs, Public Affairs, Legal, Global Value & Access, Government Pricing, and Contracting Operations on policy and market landscape shifts impacting multiple Gilead brands

  • Lead the development of new product channel& distribution strategies, and modifications based on ongoing market dynamics, including identification of market disruptors and new segments; Identify key new trends and act as trade strategy subject matter expert for Senior Leadership

  • Engage with cross-functional partners/ stakeholders to incorporate key channel/distribution trends and needs into launch and 3-year strategic planning, and deliver recommendations to Senior Leadership

  • Attend outside meetings or conferences to monitor the competitive landscape and stay abreast of distribution trends.

  • Oversee development and guide implementation of Launch Playbooks (for all Market Access functions, including Trade) to support Best Practices for all Gilead launches

  • Steering a matrix team, influencing without authority, and communicating effectively with executives in recommending a path forward

  • Demonstrate broad cross-functional leadership. As appropriate, partner with relevant functional experts and/or lead market research and analytic workstreams that support above cross-portfolio access and trade strategy

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Exceptional Storytelling skills with the ability to distill and efficiently communicate complex analytics (both orally and in writing) across all levels of management that support a range of strategic decisions

  • Leadership skills and team/ people management experience, with experience leading cross-functional working groups through complex projects

  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines in an environment of competing and changing priorities. Must have strong task management skills to include planning, prioritization, objective setting, and meeting management and plan execution, and issue resolution

  • Experience designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative primary and secondary market research, especially among payers and channel stakeholders

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years’ Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience

OR

PhD and Ten Years’ Experience

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 14+ years experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, or related industry (or 10+ years with an advanced degree relevant to the role)

  • An advanced degree is preferred

  • 5+ years combining pricing/reimbursement, product strategy, channel/trade strategy, market planning, and/or financial analysis experience

  • Previous experience in the development and execution of distribution networks and channel segments, including Wholesalers, Specialty Distributors, Retail and Specialty Pharmacies, Hospitals, and Integrated Delivery Networks

  • Working knowledge of US Market Access (e.g., flow of product and dollars across the distribution chain, government pricing regulations, typical contracting terms and approaches) as well as key healthcare related datasets (e.g. 867, 852)

  • Product launch experience is highly desired
