Senior Manager, Medical Digital Strategy & Activation is responsible for advancing Medical Affairs’ digital strategy by enabling global, regional, and affiliate teams to plan, activate, and optimize digital solutions that support scientific exchange, advance medical and scientific education, and enable digital engagement. This role plays a central role in operating and evolving the Global Medical Digital Office, including governance frameworks, intake and prioritization processes, and cross-functional ways of working, while ensuring alignment to enterprise digital standards and Medical Affairs priorities.

Reporting to the Senior Director within Global Medical Strategy & Operations, this role serves as a connective leader across Insights, Digital, and Analytics (IDA), Medical Affairs Technology, IT, Compliance, and other regional and functional Medical Affairs teams. The Senior Manager shapes and enables medical digital innovation, including AI-enabled capabilities, defines digital channel guardrails and success measures, and supports affiliates through guidance, playbooks, and decision support. Through strong partnership, governance, and analytics-informed decision-making, this role helps translate strategy into scalable, compliant, and impactful digital execution across the global Medical Affairs organization.

Key responsibilities:

Medical Digital Office Leadership & Governance

  • Manage day-to-day operations and evolution of the Global Medical Digital Office, including governance frameworks and cross-functional ways of working.
  • Serve as the primary triage point for digital needs, ensuring alignment to global Medical Affairs priorities and standards.
  • Partner with regional and affiliate stakeholders to consolidate digital needs and support joint roadmap development.
  • Support the Senior Director in delivering Digital Office forums and disseminating guidance and best practices across regions.

AI Strategy Implementation & Enablement

  • Define and steward Medical digital innovation, including AI‑enabled capabilities, by articulating Medical-digital engagement workflows, shaping use‑case intent, defining AI experience requirements, and establishing adoption expectations and success measures;
  • Monitoring relevant medical industry and peer benchmarks to inform MA digital-AI innovation; this role will work in close partnership with MA Technology for platform delivery, operations, and governance

Digital Activation & Affiliate Enablement

  • Enable affiliates to activate global digital strategies through guidance, playbooks, and decision support.
  • Support affiliates on complex digital initiatives requiring cross-functional coordination.
  • Identify opportunities to scale successful digital approaches across regions.
  • Drive awareness and adoption of Digital Office processes and governance.

Medical Affairs Digital Channel Strategy

  • Contribute to defining and evolving Medical Affairs’ digital channel strategy within the omnichannel ecosystem.
  • Define channel guardrails and success measures with IDA, MA Tech, and MA content partners.
  • Leverage analytics to inform approach to channel optimization and engagement effectiveness.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment

  • Serve as a connective leader aligning digital priorities across global, regional, and affiliate partners.
  • Partner with MA Tech, IT, Compliance, Content, and Analytics to ensure capabilities meet Medical Affairs needs.
  • Support broader GMSO and IDA initiatives related to digital transformation and insights.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ Years with BS/BA
  • 6+ Years with MS/MA or MBA

Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree preferred (e.g., MS, PhD, PharmD, MBA) or equivalent experience in life sciences, healthcare, or digital strategy.
  • 8+ years of experience in digital strategy, insights/analytics, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading digital or engagement strategy in a global, matrixed organization.
  • Strong understanding of omnichannel engagement, federated governance models, and analytics-driven decision-making.
  • Proven ability to develop strategic guidance documents and implement global-to-local governance frameworks
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, lead without formal authority, and translate strategy into actionable guidance.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and shaping new operating models or ways of working.

The salary range for this position is: $157,590.00 - $203,940.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
