Job Description

Senior Director, Digital Channel Strategy & Publishing

At Gilead, we are driven by our mission to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that change lives. Public Affairs plays a critical role in shaping and elevating Gilead’s global narrative through clear, credible, and modern communications.

The Senior Director, Digital Channel Strategy & Publishing is responsible for leading the execution, publishing, and optimization of Gilead’s Public Affairs digital experiences across web, social media, and internal digital channels. This role ensures that messaging developed by Public Affairs leadership is translated into high‑quality, consistent, and timely digital experiences that meet modern standards for usability, accessibility, performance, privacy, and brand safety.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Public Affairs Omnichannel Strategy & Digital Transformation, this role leads the teams responsible for website operations, social media publishing, internal digital signage, and creative production workflows. The Senior Director serves as the operational backbone of Public Affairs Digital, partnering closely with Strategy, Platforms & AI, IT, Legal/Compliance, Privacy, and regional stakeholders to ensure secure, compliant, data‑driven execution at globally.

This is a hybrid role, located at Gilead HQ in Foster City, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own end‑to‑end publishing and execution of Public Affairs digital content across web, social media, and internal digital signage.
  • Ensure digital experiences are on‑brand, accessible (WCAG 2.2 AA), performant (Core Web Vitals), and aligned to Gilead’s global narrative.
  • Translate messaging strategy and priorities into executable publishing plans, channel‑specific content approaches, and always‑on editorial calendars.
  • Lead rapid‑response publishing during issues and crisis situations, including real‑time monitoring, escalation, and approvals with Legal/Compliance.
  • Own channel execution strategy for corporate websites, corporate social platforms, employee/social advocacy, and internal signage.
  • Establish and maintain publishing standards, cadence guidelines, governance, and operational playbooks, including MLR/MLC workflows.
  • Oversee community management (triage, response matrices, brand safety, escalation) with Communications and Legal.
  • Oversee corporate website operations, UX, information architecture, and content governance across regions and business units.
  • Lead creative production workflows (intake, prioritization, timelines, QA, vendor/SOW management), optimizing for speed, quality, and compliance.
  • Instrument measurement (tagging/UTM, dashboards, conversion/event taxonomies) and drive continuous optimization (A/B testing, experimentation).
  • Partner with Strategy/Platforms & AI teams on martech roadmap, capabilities enablement, and integrations (e.g., SSO, analytics, consent, archiving).
  • Drive accessibility remediation, SEO/GEO/SEM best practices, and content performance improvements across channels.
  • Champion privacy, compliance, and security in all digital operations (consent, cookie management, retention/archiving, least‑privilege access).
  • Coach, develop, and scale a high‑performing team (directors, associate directors, managers, specialists) and manage agencies to defined KPIs and SLAs.

Required Knowledge, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree + 10+ years in digital publishing, digital experience, or content operations, with enterprise‑scale web and social ecosystems.
  • Proven leadership of multi‑platform, global digital operations in regulated or high‑stakes environments.
  • Strong understanding of CMS‑driven and headless publishing, UX principles, WCAG 2.2 AA, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Experience managing creative operations, agencies, and complex approval workflows (including MLR/MLC).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and deliver at pace during issues/crisis scenarios.
  • Proficiency in analytics/insights, experimentation, and data‑driven decision‑making.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, & Skills::

  • Advanced degree + experience in pharmaceuticals, biotech, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
  • Experience supporting global, multi‑language digital operations and localization.
  • Familiarity with AI‑assisted content operations and governance in the enterprise.
  • Comfort partnering with IT, Security, Privacy, and Legal/Compliance on integrations and policies.

The salary range for this position is: $243,100.00 - $314,600.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
