Associate Director, Corporate Strategic Finance

The Corporate Strategic Finance team is responsible for leading the consolidation of the Long Range Plan (LRP), peer benchmarking analysis and special projects including but not limited to corporate valuation workstreams, financial analysis to drive major initiatives to grow revenue, reduce expenses, and manage P&L volatility. This position will work across the Finance organization as well as partner with strategic planning teams in Commercial, Development, and Corporate Strategy. This position reports to the Head of Corporate Strategic Finance and will be based in Foster City, CA.

As an Associate Director, Corporate Strategic Finance, you will be an integral member of the Corporate Strategic Finance team and must have a strong track record of strategic thinking leveraging rigorous financial analysis, distilling insights into clear and cohesive executive presentations, and influencing senior leadership to act on key recommendations. This individual must be a self-starter with the ability to effectively navigate ambiguous situations in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Essential Duties & Job Functions

The Corporate Strategic Finance team is responsible for a range of activities. Specific job duties will vary depending on project requirements.

  • Lead the process and consolidation of Gilead’s Long Range Plan (LRP), ensuring comprehensive integration across Gilead’s strategic planning processes.

  • Develop and maintain the LRP model to ensure accuracy, functionality, and adaptability to evolving outputs.

  • Conduct and leverage benchmarking and peer analysis to not only validate LRP forecast assumptions and outcomes, but also help inform and drive decisions across the organization.

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency of LRP updates.

  • Lead collaboration with Planning, Strategy & Analysis (PS&A) to evolve financial trade-offs to support Portfolio Review and LRP refresh

  • Collaborate with Treasury on an integrated financial strategy to support the Corporate Strategy, facilitating trade-off discussions across internal investments, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and shareholder returns.

  • Partner with Corporate FP&A to support quarterly impairment analyses related to In-Process Research & Development (IPR&D).

  • Special projects may include, but are not limited to: leading select analysis for CFO Office strategic initiatives (e,g., financial analysis for Corporate Operations and Human Resources on geographical footprint and site strategy), collaborating on Corporate Strategy workstreams (e.g., strategic refresh) and supporting the evaluation of M&A deals post-acquisition.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Degree and 14 Years Experience; OR

  • Associates Degree and 12 Years Experience; OR

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10 Years Experience; OR

  • Masters' Degree and 8 Years Experience; OR

  • PhD and 2 Years Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understands complex financial statements and valuation models

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills including forecasting and financial modeling capabilities

  • Able to craft and deliver clear, cohesive presentations for executive leadership and Board of Directors

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, resolve conflict, and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines

  • Able to handle competing priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment and have a “roll up the sleeves” attitude

  • Comfort and experience tackling ambiguous, complex problems

  • Significant experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry with demonstrated cross-functional collaboration and leadership

  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint
