Job Description

As an HIV Prevention National Head of Sales, at Gilead you will lead the national sales strategy and execution for a rapidly evolving and highly competitive HIV Prevention portfolio. This role sits at the center of Gilead’s HIV Prevention Commercial Leadership Team and is accountable for delivering revenue growth, market expansion, and execution excellence across the U.S. You will shape strategy, lead through a team of senior leaders, and drive alignment across marketing, access, analytics, and community engagement teams to deliver a best-in-class customer and patient experience.
How You Will Make an Impact
Enterprise Sales Strategy & Market Leadership
Define and execute the national sales strategy aligned to franchise and brand priorities
Anticipate and respond to competitive, regulatory, and market dynamics
Identify growth opportunities and remove barriers impacting patient access
Execution Excellence & Performance Delivery
Drive accountability for revenue, market share, and operational performance across regions
Establish performance management frameworks and proactively address execution gaps
Ensure effective field deployment, structure, and resource optimization
Launch Readiness & Capability Building
Prepare the organization for upcoming product launches and market-shaping initiatives
Build capabilities within field teams to sustain long-term success in HIV prevention
Strengthen key account management and stakeholder engagement strategies
Cross-Functional Leadership & Enterprise Influence
Partner with Marketing, Market Access, Analytics, HR, and CL&D to align execution
Set incentive compensation strategy and field performance goals
Lead national, regional, and mid-year field meetings to drive alignment and culture
People Leadership & Culture
Build and lead a high-performing organization of leaders across geographies
Foster an inclusive, accountable, and performance-driven culture
Develop leadership pipelines and succession plans for critical roles
What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)
Establish a clear national sales strategy implemented and adopted across regions
Strong execution against revenue and market share targets
Successful readiness for pipeline launches and field capability uplift
Improved field alignment, engagement, and performance accountability
Strengthened collaboration across commercial and support functions
Additional Information
Location: Foster City, CA (office-based)
Travel: Approximately 30–40%
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 16 years’ experience,
ORMaster’s Degree and 14 years’ experience,
ORPhD and 14 years’ experience
Preferred Qualifications
MBA or other advanced degree
Proven experience leading leaders in large, matrixed commercial organizations
Strong strategic leadership with demonstrated ownership of P&L and enterprise decision-making
Track record of successfully driving organizational transformation and performance improvement
Deep experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology commercial functions (e.g., sales, marketing, market access)
Expertise in strategic planning, portfolio management, and lifecycle management
Experience in HIV and/or prevention markets strongly preferred
High emotional intelligence with exceptional communication and stakeholder influence skills
Ability to navigate complex, matrixed environments and align cross-functional teams
Demonstrated commitment to developing talent and fostering inclusive team cultures
