Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director of Global Logistics (GL), part of the Global Supply Chain, and part of the larger Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing organization (PDM), the Director, Clinical Logistics will lead the Clinical Logistics team (6 people), with responsibility for the Global Logistics clinical strategy, tactics and operations. This role is accountable for compliance, quality, service, budget and sustainability within Gilead's Clinical logistics activities, including both warehousing and transport. The role holder will also be the most senior interface to the Global Clinical Supply Chain (GCSC) Leadership team, including the Vice President of GCSC and will be the representative of Gilead clinical logistics to 3rd party partners such as Almac, Thermo-Fisher, QuickStat, World Courier etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for GL clinical logistics services globally; Safety, Compliance, Quality, Service Cost and Sustainability.

  • Build a seamless partnership between the GL clinical team and GCSC such that GCSC are fully supported in all areas of logistics (warehousing and transport) globally across all temperature regimes.

  • Partner with Logistics Procurement to select suppliers that support Gilead ambitions within clinical logistics.

  • Build strong relationships with contracted providers to ensure that they understand and deliver Gilead priorities.

  • Understand, augment, and deploy the clinical logistics strategy globally and ensure that GL clinical logistics are always capable of moving / storing clinical material globally.

  • Continuously evolve the clinical logistics strategy in partnership with GCSC to ensure future capability and capacity is in place.

  • Manage the GL clinical logistics budget for both Internal Opex (~$2.5m) and external spend (~$25m).

  • Lead the GL clinical Logistics team of 6 direct reports.

  • Accountable for ensuring that GL clinical logistics is always audit ready and has BCP in place for all service areas.

  • Partner with GL Commercial logistics team to ensure

· standardization of processes and systems use.

· seamless transition of Products from clinical to commercial operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Degree and Sixteen Years Experience; OR

  • Associates Degree and Fourteen Years Experience; OR

  • Bachelor's Degree and Twelve Years Experience; OR

  • Masters' Degree and Ten Years Experience; OR

  • PhD and Eight Years Experience

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Extensive experience of Global clinical logistics and Distribution and a proven track record on Cold Chain Distribution and Logistics.

  • Ability to manage internal and external partnerships, including interacting with senior Gilead and third-party management.

  • Proven track record and hands on experience with SAP S4 Hanna ERP, WMS / IM and TMS systems.

  • Experience in driving global process harmonization and standardization.

  • Proven track record directing multiple outsourced vendors and executing suppler relation management (SRM).

  • Proven track record in developing complex concepts, techniques, and standards within a fast-paced global logistics operation.

  • Extensive understanding of GMP, GDP, Quality, and regulatory requirements within the pharmaceutical sector.

  • Customs Trade and Compliance competencies.

  • Demonstrable strong leadership, decision-making and influencing skills.

  • A Proven track record in Change management and the ability to deal with the transition or transformation of an organization's goals, processes, or technologies.

  • A demonstrated history/experience of people-management.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated and proven track record and a comprehensive understanding of the financial aspects of Supply Chain operations. Comprehensive knowledge of financial reporting, costing, and cost analysis.

  • Proven track record and hands on experience with SAP S4 Hanna ERP, WMS / IM and TMS systems.
