Logistics and Transportation

Pharmaceutical & Biologics Operations

We are seeking a highly motivated leader to join us as a Logistics and Transportation Senior Supply Chain Specialist as part of the Pharmaceutical and Biologics Operations team.  The role is responsible for supporting the continued growth of Gilead’s Commercial and Clinical operations by working with the internal Gilead teams, freight forwarding partners, Cold Chain solutions partners, and our contract manufacturing partners for global transportation of intermediate and finished goods to support continued supply of products to our patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiates, coordinates and tracks Commercial and Clinical shipments between facilities, including Gilead to Gilead, Gilead to non-Gilead and non-Gilead to non-Gilead
  • Manages required ERP system transactions and creates supporting Material Transfer Request, Drug Shipment Requests, and customs brokerage documents
  • Establish and maintain relationships, SOP’s, and route designs with logistics carriers for international and domestic lanes
  • Creates and edits SOP’s for logistics and transportation processes
  • Establishes working relationships with appropriate external or cross-functional contacts.
  • Negotiates and monitors levels of service or performance provided, communicates areas of concern to resolve issues.
  • Provides freight forecasts to freight forwarders to facilitate bookings
  • Works on assignments that range from routine to moderately non-routine in nature where independent action and initiative are required in resolving problems and developing recommendations.
  • Creates KPI’s and assists with business reviews
  • Able to recognize deviation from accepted practices.
  • Develops creative solutions for new logistics needs and recognizes and implements process improvements.
  • Normally receives no instruction on routine work and general instructions on new assignments.

Knowledge, Experience, and skills

  • Experience in pharmaceutical operations as well as knowledge of GMP/GDP, QA and regulatory requirements within the pharmaceutical sector.
  • Working knowledge of cold chain active and passive shipping containers
  • Understanding and use of Incoterms
  • General understanding of trade compliance, including items on a commercial invoice, and FDA requirements an advantage
  • A proven track record within the freight industry, including experience in both domestic and international transportation and logistics
  • Working relationships with trucking companies and international freight forwarders highly desirable
  • Previous experience of the Pharma industry including GMP’s and Quality Assurance practice
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in related field and a BS or BA; or
  • 3+ years of relevant experience and a MA/MBA.
