Research Scientist, Cell Biology – T cell Engineering

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as a Scientist in our Disruptive Biology team. You will play a key role in developing innovative technology platforms for genetic engineering in primary immune cells. You will also contribute to the development of innovative manufacturing processes, and to the design of next generation cell therapies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conducting experiments: average expected time at the bench 70%
  • Optimize fit-for-purpose assays and develop new assays
  • Develop innovative solutions to problems
  • Analyze and interpret data. Record data in the format required by Kite
  • Communicate effectively research plans and results, in both oral and written form in team/cross-team meetings
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments
  • Coordinate and prioritize tasks across multiple projects and different segments of the company

Basic Qualifications

Advanced scientific degree (i.e. MD, PharmD, PhD) OR

Master’s Degree and 6+ years of scientific experience OR

Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education in immunology / cancer immunotherapy / cancer biology
  • Experience working with and engineering human T cells: viral transduction and transfection using different strategies
  • Experience in functional characterization of CAR-T: in vitro cytotoxicity, proliferation, cytokine production, cell signaling, activation, phenotype, differentiation and exhaustion
  • Proficiency in cell culture aseptic technique, experience with different types of immune and tumor cell lines
  • Independently design and implement experiments and develop and optimize fit-for-purpose assays
  • Proficiency in multi-parameter flow and/or spectral cytometry including panel design, sample preparation and acquisition, antibody titration and data analysis
  • Experience in synthetic biology
  • Experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques, including but not limited to ELISA based assays, Proquantum, Luminex and ddPCR
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving skills and time-management skills. Self-motivated, inspired to learn new concept and techniques independently
  • Ability to analyze, interpret data and communicate effectively research plans and results, in both oral and written form in team/cross-team meetings
  • Proficiency using the following software: FACSDiva, FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, Excel, SnapGene, MSD Workbench. Proficiency with using genomic/bioinformatic databases
  • Ability to coordinate tasks across multiple projects and demonstrate prioritization and planning skills. Being able to work both independently and as a team. Willing to provide support and training to team members with their projects.
  • Posses work ethic to learn and grow in an exciting work environment. Flexible to changes in project priorities depending on company needs.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to details and in record keeping
