Job Description

Post-Doctoral Scientist – Drug Delivery

Summary:

The Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Department at Gilead Sciences is looking for a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow – Drug Delivery to pursue cutting-edge research and development work to improve our fundamental understanding of drug delivery, depot formation, and the interaction with target tissues for long-acting injectable and controlled release formulations.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will initiate an independent research project to develop a fundamental understanding of long-acting injectable (LAI) depot formation and acute, sub-chronic, and chronic interactions with the local tissue environment. This candidate will participate in the development, execution, and analysis of nonclinical in vitro, in silico, ex vivo, and in vivo methods and models aimed at understanding and predicting pharmacokinetics and foreign body response to various LAIs.

The expectation is that this work will result in novel contributions that will influence Gilead’s approach in formulation design and delivery system development, and the means by which Gilead may control and optimize formulation/delivery to achieve the desired long-term outcome of LAIs in the clinic. These contributions include, but are not limited to: development and publication of a comprehensive review paper on current challenges and opportunities for LAI development, a comprehensive understanding of the physiologically-based pharmacokinetic nuances of various LAIs and local tissue interaction, development and implementation of impactful nonclinical models into development pipelines in the Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing organization. The selected candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment at Gilead through a 2-year term. The candidate will be provided with access to Gilead’s world-class research facilities and the opportunity to leverage expertise and resources across multiple functional areas at Gilead. This role will be heavily independent and require a highly motivated candidate capable of working collaboratively with individuals across a broad range of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidate should possess a Doctoral degree and have a strong background in biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical development, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a life science-related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous success working effectively in a multidisciplinary environment

  • Excellent decision-making, written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to think critically, plan and execute experiments independently, and contribute in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment

  • Qualified candidates should have at least one first author paper published or accepted in a peer-reviewed journal.

  • Candidates with experience in drug delivery, controlled release, resorbable biomaterials, tissue engineering, and/or pharmaceutical development are preferred.

The salary range for this position is: $126,820.00 - $164,120.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary.
