Job Description

The Position

Gilead is seeking an intellectually curious, growth minded, self-motivated individual to serve as Associate Director – International Tax, reporting to the Senior Director of International Tax in Cork, Ireland. The successful applicant will ideally be based in Cork but open to alternative locations depending on candidate. This position will be an integral member of the group’s global and international tax functions, working closely with business partners to support evolving business objectives. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic in-house tax function with high visibility across the organisation and requires a strategic business partner with a global mindset and proven leadership abilities.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a risk management mindset with a constant focus on prioritisation and re-prioritisation
  • Be an excellent pro-active communicator and listener with ability to navigate the Gilead matrix organisation
  • Be able to brief senior management accordingly and understand how to manage conflict appropriately
  • Be clear, concise and decisive in advising business partners where tax issues or opportunities arise
  • Approach issues with sound tax technical knowledge and pragmatic considerations and takes ownership and accountability for projects from beginning to finish.

Key Responsibilities/Functions include:

  • Develop deep understanding of the company’s business and transaction flows, and how it impacts and interacts with the IP and commercialization structures.
  • Proactive engagement with cross-functional business partners to support Gilead’s evolving business needs and initiatives, including supporting business development efforts.
  • Support various aspects of transfer pricing, including review of material intercompany transactions, implementing group transfer pricing policies and supporting preparation and review of transfer pricing documentation.
  • Support/lead tax controversy efforts across a number of countries.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of initiatives in response to the evolving international tax landscape.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Chartered Tax advisor or equivalent qualification required.  Chartered Accountant or equivalent desirable.
  • Significant years progressively responsible experience in transfer pricing and international tax/accounting issues.  Experience with tax aspects of M&A and post-acquisition structuring desirable.
  • Multinational industry experience preferred.
  • Able to communicate technical tax issues clearly to non-tax personnel and work effectively with all levels of internal stakeholders and external advisors.
