Kite is excited to announce that we are spearheading a transformative journey through our Global Data and Digital Innovation (GDDI) team by delivering a premier healthcare provider (HCP) and patient experience by leveraging advanced data and digital capabilities.

As such, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as an Associate Director of Data Science - Omnichannel & Customer Analytics to join our Marketing Science team, “GDDI – Advanced Analytics and Data Science”. Internally known as an Associate Director of Marketing Sciences, this key role is responsible for developing and delivering actionable, data-driven insights to support data science initiatives and omnichannel marketing strategic planning and implementation in support of our commercial program. The focus of the Associate Director is to enhance and elevate customer and patient experiences across various communication modes, including channels, content, and messaging. Such actions are crucial in helping us fulfill our overarching mission of expanding access to cell therapy for as many eligible patients as possible.

To foster meaningful connections with stakeholders, we would prefer that this opportunity be located at either Kite’s Santa Monica, California headquarters or our Foster City, CA office (3 days per week onsite required) and will provide a generous relocation package as eligible. Alternatively, and for the right candidate, we may also consider this position to be remotely based within the contiguous United States, with expected travel to Kite’s HQ 2-3 times per quarter.

Key Responsibilities of the Associate Director of Data Science - Omnichannel & Customer Analytics include:

  • Strategy and Value Realization: Provide visionary leadership in the role of data science in facilitating the development and implementation of best-in-class strategies for omnichannel customer engagement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data science initiatives with overall business goals. Cultivate change and adoption in the organization.

  • AI/ML Model Development:

    • Develop advanced machine learning (ML) models to leverage customer data and other data sources, enhancing customer engagement across various communication platforms such as digital platforms, social media, and CRM data.

    • Lead efforts to analyze customer behavior patterns and preferences using data mining, machine learning, and predictive analytics. Translate these insights into actionable recommendations for optimizing engagement strategies.

    • Spearhead the creation of personalized customer experiences through sophisticated personalization models. Utilize thoughtful insights to tailor marketing content, product recommendations, and communication strategies.

    • Create and implement measurement strategies and controlled experiments to understand the impact of our programs and refine them for maximum effectiveness.

  • Omnichannel Orchestration: Develop, operationalize, and enhance omnichannel orchestration solutions by leveraging data science and advanced analytics to address complex needs within HCP journeys.

  • Production grade code deployment and ML Operations: This position will also be responsible for coaching a team of internal and external commercial ML Ops specialists to develop and maintain / monitor company grade models and production pipelines that can deliver optimized marketing strategies at an individual customer level at scale.

  • Marketing Mix Models: Lead the development, implementation, coordination, and communication of Marketing Mix Models to recommend optimal resource allocation based on channel, cadence, and content. Ensure these models strengthen efficient and effective marketing strategies.

  • Strategic Recommendations: Provide strategic recommendations to brand and marketing leads for optimizing key conversion points across sales and marketing channels based on quantitative testing and insight.

  • Stakeholder Management: Manage day-to-day relationships and advanced analytics projects with internal stakeholders, including sales and marketing teams, brand teams, and other commercial stakeholders.

  • Internal Consultancy: Act as an internal consultant by proactively developing strategies to uncover business opportunities and actionable insights that can drive business growth and efficiency.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with both internal and external vendors to coordinate cross-functional analytics projects. Ensure that advanced analytics is integrated into the front-line strategic thinking of all related teams.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Develop first-hand knowledge of commercial data sets and act as a subject matter expert to navigate emerging business needs and the evolving data landscape.

  • Analytical Storytelling: Develop and present analytical solutions and insights in a compelling manner to ensure stakeholder buy-in and support for data-driven initiatives.

  • Leadership: Provide visionary leadership in the role of data science, driving the development and execution of best-in-class strategies for omnichannel customer engagement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data science initiatives with overall business goals and drive organizational change and adoption.

  • Capability Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging data science capabilities and industry trends to enhance personalization and customer engagement models. Evaluate and recommend new capabilities that can improve existing techniques and drive business growth.

  • Project Management: Assist in project prioritization, and overall project management to ensure the effective implementation of key initiatives.

  • Data Ethics: Ensure strict compliance with data privacy regulations (such as GDPR and HIPAA) and uphold the highest standards of data ethics in all data-related activities.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate and 2+ years of experience

OR

Master’s degree and 8+ years of experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience

OR

Associate degree and 12+ years of experience

OR

High School Diploma / GED degree and 14+ years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree: A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field is preferred. An MBA or business-related qualification is a plus.

  • Experience: Proven experience (8+ years) in data science, machine learning, and analytics, with a track record of applying these skills to customer engagement or marketing in the pharmaceutical or healthcare sector.

  • Industry Knowledge: 6+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.

  • Technical Proficiency: Deep programming experience in languages such as Python, R, or similar, with the ability to independently develop, test, and implement data programs. Proficiency in using data manipulation and visualization libraries.

  • Advanced Analytics: In-depth knowledge of advanced analytics, machine learning, AI techniques, and their practical applications is essential.

  • Data Management: Deep understanding of database structures, data wrangling, cleansing, and manipulation.

  • Experience in developing and supporting teams to develop end-to-end ML solutions and applications at large scale, preferably in a cloud environment. A deep understanding of ML Engineering and ML Operations is a plus.

  • Statistical Analysis: Ability to independently conduct various statistical tests such as correlation, decision tree, regression, and random forest to predict and assess customer behavior in the disease treatment journey (HCPs, patients, etc.).

  • Healthcare Data Analysis: Significant experience in conducting analysis with large healthcare data sets, including claims, EMR, and other relevant data.

  • Collaborative Skills: Ability to influence and strengthen analytical projects end-to-end through collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, including Marketing, Sales, Commercial Operations, and Market Access.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Team Leadership: Meaningful leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse team of data scientists and analysts.

  • Business Acumen: Excellent business acumen and the ability to align data science strategies with overarching business objectives.

The salary range for this position is: $173,910.00 - $225,060.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
