Research Associate, Cell Biology – Protein Expression

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join Kite’s research team at our Emeryville, CA, location. Specifically, you will be part of the Protein Sciences team, supporting our early pipeline through generation and characterization of critical recombinant protein tools. You will work in a collaborative cross-functional team environment as you support our on-site protein production capability.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and maintain cell lines for transient and stable transfections and transductions
  • Identify conditions for and appropriately scale transient and stable cell culture for production of a range of different protein families
  • Serve as subject matter expert for mammalian protein expression
  • Coordinate and prioritize tasks across multiple projects, aligning with molecular biology and protein biochemistry functions
  • Collect and interpret data to report to project teams and other core functions

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree


Preferred Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in Cell Biology or related fields
  • 1+ years Industry/academic experience in mammalian expression of a range of recombinant protein classes
  • Excellent mammalian cell/tissue culture and sterile technique
  • Experience with transient transfection techniques and generation of stable cell lines
  • Familiarity with Octet BLI platform
  • Experience in cell staining and flow cytometry
  • Proficiency in the use of software to support data analysis such as FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, as well as Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills and high priority placed on effective time management
  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and record keeping, using ELN and LIMS
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to adapt to changing priorities
