Gilead Sciences is seeking a talented and highly motivated Sr. Associate Scientist to join our Inflammation group. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary team leverages state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic.

This is a lab-based role focused on the discovery and development of novel immunotherapeutic agents to address unmet medical needs in inflammatory diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease and atopic dermatitis. The successful candidate will contribute to projects spanning discovery research through early development, working as part of multidisciplinary teams. They will also independently design and execute experiments to deepen our understanding of disease biology.

Essential Functions

  • Support preclinical development and discovery of novel therapeutics targeting inflammation.
  • Develop and execute proof-of-concept and validation assays.
  • Conduct immunological studies to assess the mechanism of action of preclinical and clinical compounds.
  • Collaborate on cross-functional teams and contribute to translational efforts in inflammation.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

  • Strong background in immunology, cellular and molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining scientific rigor and technical excellence.
  • Excellent organizational skills for managing data and experimental protocols.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present data and conclusions in team meetings.
  • Collaborative mindset and commitment to teamwork.
Basic Qualifications:
  • 5+ Years with BS
    OR
  • 3+ Years with MS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in immunology, cell and molecular biology, or a related biological science.
  • BS with 8+ years or MS with 6+ years of relevant post-graduate research or drug development experience preferred.
  • Proficient in:
    • Cell culture techniques (cell lines, primary cell isolation, transfection/transduction)
    • RNA isolation and qPCR
    • Development and execution of in vitro cell-based functional assays
    • Flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex/MSD, and other immunoassays
  • Enthusiastic, team-oriented, and adaptable.
  • Strong foundation in immunology, inflammatory diseases, barrier tissue or immune modulation strategies.
  • Industry experience in immunology or barrier tissue biology.
  • Additional lab skills: molecular biology, tissue processing, microscopy, 3D organoid culture.
  • Experience with in vivo mouse disease models is a plus.
