The Research Oncology department at Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) is seeking a talented and highly motivated Scientist to join our immuno-oncology group. Our highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate will drive ongoing and new efforts to discover and develop novel immunotherapeutic agents to address the unmet medical needs of cancer patients. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery and translational research from the bench to advance novel immuno-oncology therapeutics
  • Independently plan, execute, analyze, and interpret in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo experiments that support the initiation and/or advancement of drug candidates into the pipeline
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies, novel modalities and develop new assays to accelerate early-stage discovery activities and/or enhance our understanding of complex disease mechanisms
  • Engage in cross-functional collaborations across Gilead’s research organization (e.g. Medicinal Chemistry, Protein Therapeutics, High-Throughput Biology, Bioinformatics, Clinical Oncology, Biomarkers) to effectively develop new drugs.
  • Present research findings at internal or external meetings and contribute to preparation of research reports, manuscripts, INDs, and patent filings
  • Think critically and creatively, work independently, and have strong organizational and planning skills
  • Provide coaching and training to junior and/or less experienced colleagues in solving technical and scientific problems

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and Seven Years’ Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Five Years’ Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree and 2+ years of experience in immunology, cancer biology, cell biology in industry or academia; Or Bachelor/Master’s degree with extensive industry experience
  • Broad technical skillset in molecular and cell biology, including human and/or mouse primary cell culture, multi-parameter flow cytometry, immunological assays, cell line development, in vivo animal study design/execution
  • Fluency in the use of molecular techniques to evaluate signaling networks and cellular phenotypes (e.g., western blot, ELISA, proteomics as well as siRNA/shRNA, CRISPR and gene expression analysis)
  • Experience with primary immune cell culture and engineering (human and murine models), functional genomics platforms (CRISPR, lentiviral/retroviral cell engineering; arrayed or pooled phenotypic screens) is highly desired
  • Background in immunology research, cancer vaccine, lipid nanoparticle-based therapeutics, and/or cancer immunology a plus
  • Previous experience in drug discovery in an industry setting preferred
