Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join Kite’s Corporate Development and Strategy Team as the Director of Strategy. The Director will drive Kite’s short- and long-term growth strategy and as such, is responsible for driving key elements of Kite’s mid and long-term strategy, including setting the strategic goalposts for Kite, development the roadmap / path to achieve those goals (research, clinical and business development targets), aligning Kite Leadership to the strategic plan, as well as, working with finance to embed the strategic plan in the organization through resourcing, funding, tracking and monitoring. This opportunity, internally known as Director of Corporate Development, will be based at Kite’s Global Headquarters in Santa Monica, California and will report to the Head of Strategy. Occasional travel will be necessary.
Responsibilities:
Strong Strategic Thinking:
Extracts insight / identify issues from data / metrics / external trends and build robust approaches to address the issues and engage cross-functional network of colleagues to solve the issues
Strong Communication and Influencing Skills:
Develops and articulates complex strategic issues, and ideas (e.g., Research strategy, corporate strategy)
Articulates a story both verbally and through excellent senior level presentation skills (includes development of materials (models, slides) for executive level discussions on these topics)
Agility:
Works on multiple projects with overlapping timelines with the ability to quickly digest and prioritize information
Long-Term Strategic Planning:
Leads long-term strategic planning, Research/innovation planning, and/or leading elements of corporate strategy development.
Provides both the financial/quantitative aspects of long-term planning as well as the strategic/qualitative aspects
Excel and Quantitative Modeling:
Develops and interprets long-term financial models (P&L) as well as constructing “back of envelope” analyses to help support work
Industry Knowledge:
Leverages knowledge about the biotech and biopharma segment including key players, their portfolios, strengths and weaknesses
Understands key drivers of success in sector with a point of view on these as it pertains to Kite.
Harnesses emerging technologies and strategic themes in industry (digital health, M&A trends, pricing environment, regional nuances, commercial models, etc.)
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience
OR
Masters' Degree and Ten Years’ Experience
OR
PhD and Eight Years’ Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA from top tier institution; PhD, MD or science background a plus
Experience from top tier consulting firm, investment bank or similar discipline
Ability to multi-task and independently lead multiple projects and meet key deadlines
Ethics, integrity and maturity to work with senior level leaders and comport themselves appropriately
Strong team-oriented ethos and collaborative style
Courage to take unpopular stances where appropriate
Ability to work cross-functionally and understand the motivations of colleagues in other functions
Ability to influence upward and downward in organization
Quick learner – applies 80/20 rule
Flexible – comfortable with fluid objectives and priorities
