The Senior Director, PAQ Medical Key Accounts will have overall responsibility for leading the development and execution of our strategy for Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN’s), Academic Medical Centers (AMC’s), community practices, and other institutions as needed. This includes leading a best-in-class scientific team who are accountable for driving scientific partnerships with clinical/therapeutic, medical, economic, and policy decision makers who impact patient access decisions at these accounts.
This position will report to the Executive Director and head of USMA PAQ.
Job Responsibilities (including, but are not limited to)
Establish a clear vision, focus and direction for the team by translating annual plan of actions (POA) into a field strategy, with ability to anticipate, prioritize and agilely pivot as needed as well as promote synergy between field and in-house PAQ strategy teams.
In collaboration with global and U.S. Medical Affairs, as well as U.S. Commercial (Sales & Marketing, and Market Access), develop medical key account management strategies to ensure that Gilead is improving patient lives by aligning account needs and external stakeholder value drivers to the Gilead portfolio.
Partner with PAQ strategy and Market Access strategy teams to develop tools and resources to support successful implementation of account plans, and defined metrics of success. Develop a deep understanding of accounts, including customer engagement needs and preferences, to drive defined solutions with tailored account stakeholder communications to enhance account experience.
Oversees all aspects of people management, including
Providing ongoing coaching, mentoring and oversight of team under a learning culture to manage for higher performance and facilitate individual career growth and development including provision of opportunities to highlight contributions and impact.
Establishing team and individual goals and objectives (including both quantitative and qualitative measures) and implement processes to routinely monitor progress.
Ensuring timely, accurate, and succinct communication of scientific evidence on Gilead products and related disease states including Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) related information to key stakeholders in a manner consistent with business conduct and regulatory requirements.
Guide team to strategically collect and share customer insights and evidence gaps that help to inform PAQ strategy teams to advance data generation that is meaningful to customer educational needs, clinical and economic value communication and research priorities.
Support team to develop account specific strategic and tactical plans, including a detailed assessment of key influencers and decision makers at each account, as well as the composition of stakeholder networks. Understand Oncology and HIV access and population health decision maker needs and develop and maintain positive professional relationships with them based on mutual respect and the sincere interest in sharing their perspective on medical therapies.
Collaborate effectively and in a compliant manner with colleagues in other functional areas throughout Gilead. Support team to integrate their roles within assigned geographies and accounts including appropriate coordination with the Commercial Market Access teams, and Medical Affairs Therapeutic MSL teams. Drive a “One Gilead” mindset and ways of working through close collaboration with cross-functional partners, with knowledge on optimal leverage of different functional expertise. Guide team to serve as medical account lead for each institution in their territories to orchestrate effective engagements of value across the enterprise.
Ensure operational excellence including goal setting, budget management, timely and accurate submission of timesheets and expense reports, recording of external interactions, required training, etc.
Ensure Medical Science compliance with applicable PhRMA Code, OIG guidelines, FDA related laws, regulations, guidance and Gilead policies.
Requirements
Advanced scientific degree (MD, DO, PhD or PharmD strongly preferred) with 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or related healthcare field required.
Extensive experience managing large accounts (minimum of 5 years), preferably in the Oncology and Virology space (particularly HIV), with existing contacts at accounts preferred.
Three or more years of previous management/supervisory experience is preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills (proactive, strategic, creates a highly accountable team culture, provides clear direction) with the ability to evaluate competing priorities to arrive at an appropriate decision.
Therapeutic Area knowledge and experience in Oncology and HIV highly preferred.
Extensive knowledge of the U.S. healthcare ecosystems and payer landscape, including possession of the business acumen necessary for patient access; ability to translate scientific and HEOR data understanding that is meaningful to various groups to achieve the identified business goals of the company
Ability to liaise and coordinate activity between the field team, and Strategy Leads.
Excellent strategic thinking skills, with demonstrated ability to successfully lead the ideation, development of a plan, and move to action
Possess a willingness and ability to work hands-on and with a sense of urgency, in a fast-paced, scientific, entrepreneurial environment
Solid working knowledge of regulatory and compliance environment. Thorough understanding of applicable regulatory requirements for field-based personnel and PhRMA guidelines, including geographic regulatory related guidelines
Effective organizational, project planning, and time management skills with proven ability to coach individuals and teams for peak performance and ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities
Professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively present high-quality presentations to and engage with a wide range of audiences
Strong interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communication
Computer proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe®
Ability to travel up to 50% of time within the US.
