Specific Responsibilities
A summer research internship is available in the Biologics Drug Product Development group at the Oceanside, CA, campus of Gilead Sciences. The candidate should be a PhD student/candidate or holding MSc with a major in biochemical/biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, biology, or a related scientific discipline.
This graduate level internship will focus on the design and execution of lab-scale experiments to evaluate the interactions between active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients, via the followings:
Essential Functions
Understanding the surface tension and critical micelle concentration (CMC) concepts for effective use and conducting studies with KRUSS K100 instrument.
Analyze and interpret data to optimize formulations for biologics drug development.
Collaborate with the formulation and process development team to integrate findings into the development workflow.
Prepare reports and presentations summarizing research findings and recommendations.
Familiarity with stability study design and interpreting stability results to support formulation optimization.
Utilizing various analytical techniques such as size exclusion chromatography (SEC), Light obscuration-based test methods i.e., high accuracy (HIAC) liquid particle counter, pH, protein concentration, visual inspection, etc.
Document experimental design, execution, and results in electronic lab notebook
Communicate and escalate issues to supervisor.
Follow good documentation practices.
Showcase your work with a final presentation (PPT) near the conclusion of your internship.
This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a key area of biologics drug development, working with advanced instrumentation and contributing to cutting-edge research.
Required Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old
Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8
Authorized to work in the United States without Sponsorship now or in the future or CPT/OPT through your University.
Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall semester after the completion of the internship.
Must be a Rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in undergrad or enrolled in an advanced degree program.
Must be able to complete a 10-12 consecutive week internship between May and August
Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Degree qualification: PhD and PharmD
Proficiency with MS Office Suite
Ability to identify issues and seek solutions
