Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. The Associate Director, Contract Development will lead the contracting process for select accounts across Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), Payer Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), Specialty Pharmacies, and Wholesalers/Distributors. This role is integral in executing Gilead's contracting strategy, from initial drafting to final execution. The position also involves managing complex projects, identifying opportunities for expanded partnerships, and suggesting areas for process improvement.

Work location: Foster City, California (on-site)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with field account management teams throughout the contract lifecycle to develop, draft, analyze, and negotiate contracts with large national accounts (Payer and Trade Partners), ensuring all necessary approvals.

  • Collaborate closely with legal partners to ensure consistency in contract terms and compliance, mitigating potential risks for Gilead.

  • Influences senior leadership, operational teams, and cross-functional partners to drive contract negotiations and ensure timely execution.

  • Collaborate across various Market Access functions to operationalize executed contracts effectively.

  • Ensure all relevant contract data and information are accurately recorded in the Contract Management system and shared with appropriate stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contracting strategies and their alignment with Gilead’s broader goals.

  • Provide proactive solutions to potential challenges and communicate them effectively to senior management.

  • Manage multiple priorities, ensuring quality and timely delivery of projects under tight deadlines.

  • Act as a cross-functional subject matter expert, offering advice that positively impacts business operations.

  • Lead projects independently while coordinating input from cross-functional teams.

  • Possess strong analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, emphasizing prioritization, follow-through, and issue resolution.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience, or Masters' Degree and 8 years of experience, or PhD and 2 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master's, JD, MBA, or related) is preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system, including payer, reimbursement, and channel distribution environments.

  • Previous experience in contract development or a related role within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.

  • Understanding of current policies and guidelines impacting contracts, pricing, and rebates in managed care and distribution environments.

  • Collaborative team player with a mindset geared toward learning and growth.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to achieve positive outcomes while adhering to Gilead’s policies and procedures.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Experience with advanced contract drafting and development.

  • Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding established goals and objectives.
