Job Description

Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) is seeking a talented and highly motivated Senior Research Associate II to join our Pre-Pivotal Biologics Analytical Operations group. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary development team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate is expected to serve as the analytical lead on PDM (Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing) project teams and will have opportunities for career growth through acquisition of new skills, experiences, and professional relationships in a fast-paced and resource-rich environment. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Develop analytical methods for biologic products using HPLC (size exclusion, ion exchange, reversed phase, etc.) and/or mass spectrometry (LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ToF, etc.).  

  • Acquire and interpret data for molecule characterization and process development studies. 

  • Maintain good documentation practices for recording experimental plans and results in electronic lab notebook and associated reports. 

  • Assist in troubleshooting of instrumentation and test methods. 

  • Able to work well independently and in a team setting on assigned tasks, such as method development and testing. 

  • Participate in group meetings, present results of work, interpret data, and draw conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work. 

  • Work in collaboration with more senior scientists to design experiments and advance state-of-the-art techniques. 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience in Analytical Chemistry or related fields of industrial experience in biologics analytical development; or Masters degree and 2+ years of experience in Analytical Chemistry or related fields of industrial experience in biologics analytical development.

  • Hands-on proficiency and problem-solving skills with HPLC, CE-SDS, iCIEF, LC-MS gel electrophoresis, etc.).  

  • Familiarity with lab automation, , data science, knowledge management is a plus.

The salary range for this position is: $107,270.00 - $138,820.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
