The Senior Director, Head of ERP DevOps is a leadership role responsible for sustainment and operational excellence of the company's global SAP ERP landscape. This role is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the efforts of continuous improvements, sustain and run operations to manage and maintain BAU service. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned SAP leader with deep expertise in S/4HANA, a proven track record of managing complex global SAP projects, and the ability to foster strong partnerships across the organization and with external vendors

Essential Duties and Job Functions

General responsibilities for this position will include (but are not limited to) the following:

SAP DevOps Strategy & Execution:

  • Lead the design and implementation of ERP DevOps processes across platforms, incorporating code quality, code security, change and release management, and solution reusability into the development lifecycle.

  • Execute full lifecycle of SAP development including solution design, build, test, deploy, and release across S/4HANA, BTP, and integrations.

  • Establish and enforce development standards, coding best practices, version control, and peer reviews to ensure quality and consistency.

  • Drive DevOps practices into SAP development, enabling CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and environment provisioning to accelerate delivery and reduce manual effort

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive ERP testing strategy, including integration of automated testing across platforms and products.

Run Operations & Support

  • Own end-to-end operations for SAP systems, ensuring system availability, performance, and stability across all modules.

  • Lead support for incidents, problems, service requests, and enhancements — implementing robust monitoring and incident response mechanisms.

  • Manage SLAs and KPIs to ensure high system uptime and superior user experience.

  • Monitor system health, identify bottlenecks, and proactively improve performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Collaborate with enterprise infrastructure and cloud teams to optimize environments and reduce technical debt.

  • Implement operational analytics and performance dashboards to enable real-time visibility into key SAP metrics.

  • Own vendor relationships and manage third-party support and development partners.

Strategic Leadership & Team Development

  • Build and lead high-performing SAP development and operations teams across geographies.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.

  • Drive agile delivery models (e.g., Scrum, SAFe) while supporting long-term architecture and platform strategy.

  • Own and evolve the strategy and roadmap for SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), enabling innovation through scalable and secure cloud-native services.

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

  • Partner with business and functional IT stakeholders to understand priorities, translate them into actionable technical requirements, and deliver measurable business value.

  • Establish and govern development and operations processes, ensuring adherence to cybersecurity, compliance, and enterprise architecture standards.

  • Communicate clear goals and expected outcomes for product increments, team sprints, and release milestones.

  • Be accountable for the stability, performance, and end-user support of ERP DevOps products.

  • Plan, manage, allocate, and track funding and resources across the full product lifecycle, ensuring maximum ROI. Own the full product budget and optimize team capacity.

Key Skillsets Required

  • Domain Expertise: Partner with business facing IT vertical teams to create technology strategy that optimizes operational processes. Provides insight into business processes that advance user adoption, improve customer satisfaction, and refine management reports such as those used for financial oversight based on the use of day-to-day transactional systems.

  • Quality/GXP/Validation expertise in the context of life sciences industry requirements and technology enablement practices

  • Hands on SAP S4/HANA Expertise within the ERP landscape and understanding of upcoming technical capabilities and trends in the SAP S4 domain.

  • Lead Leadership and Delivery at Enterprise Scale: Experience and able to manage DevOps teams and deliver in a matrix environment and at enterprise scale across functional value chains.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to build, develop and lead teams and rally organization around the vision

Minimum Education & Experience

  • 18+ years’ relevant experience with High School Diploma or equivalent or

  • 16+ years’ relevant experience with AA or

  • 14+ years’ relevant experience with BS / BA or

  • 12+ years’ relevant experience with MS / MA / MBA

  • Computer Science or Information Systems, or a related field discipline is preferred (Master's degree preferred).

  • Extensive IT experience in a corporate or other relevant business environment

  • Extensive experience leading IT or related functional teams as a formal people manager

  • Extensive experience leading IT projects of varying size and complexity for one or more business functions, with a focus on Agile and DevOps methodologies

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in SAP ERP management, with a focus on S/4HANA.

  • Experience with either Development, BASIS, Security, Release Management, Change Management

  • Experience with Run operations and IT Service Management

  • Proven track record of successfully leading global SAP implementations and transformations.

  • Deep expertise in SAP modules and integration technologies.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders and vendors.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with SAP S4 HANA and SAP Industry Cloud Solutions (BTP)
