Job Description

Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include HIV/AIDS, liver diseases, cancer and inflammation, and serious respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

Role Description

The role of FP&A Kite Spain & Portugal is a key Finance business partnering role reporting to Spanish Finance Controller and is a hybrid role, as together with the FP&A responsibilities will also support the day-by-day accounting, reporting and control activities of the Kite Business. Due to the complexity of the Kite business in Spain & Portugal, the role will have a specific therapeutic focus but will also require deep accounting knowledge to ensure alignment and proper delivery of the total Spain & Portugal FP&A and finance objectives. The role is responsible for partnering with the Spain & Portugal Kite commercial business at all levels, as well as the wider regional and global finance teams (FP&A and ACE Controllership) to ensure delivery of key business goals and strategies and proper gross to net accounting. This role has a broad range of responsibilities in operational finance and financial analyses and requires strong partnership with diverse stakeholders and management of multiple priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the budgeting (planning) process for the specified therapeutic area within Spain & Portugal businesses. Proactively sets the planning calendar, drives and delivers the forecast for revenues and operating expense by leading the business and other key partners through the FP&A process and ensuring deliverables are met on time and to the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Have responsibility for ensuring accounting is accurate, complete and recorded in line with Gilead policy and processes, Spanish and Portugal Local GAAP and US GAAP as well as local legislation including timely completion of month end close activities, including quarterly GtN adjustments, sales cut-off tests and account reconciliation preparation as well as participation in month end close call and BS reviews.
  • Leads the development and delivery of accurate and timely monthly management reporting including monthly financials, revenue and operating expense reporting vs. budget and prior periods. Develops good understanding of key performance drivers and issues to ensure that key risks and opportunities are highlighted.
  • Develops financial analyses and ad-hoc analyses for senior management to support tactical and strategic decision making - e.g. input to business cases, cost analysis, what if scenarios, etc. as stipulated by the needs of the business.
  • Drives continuous process improvement, efficiency and best practices within finance and the wider organisation, partnering with global functions and the business as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with worldwide policies and procedures, and local statutory reporting and overall consolidations.
  • Prepares and provides reports for different internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in a senior financial planning and analysis roles in a complex matrixed environment. Demonstrated ability to influence and challenge effectively at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge of Local GAAP and a good knowledge of US GAAP as well as all key aspects of controllership in a listed company.
  • Strong decision making, critical thinking and analytics skills, coupled with high business acumen and the ability to translate principles of finance theory into practical application.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with multiple functions at all levels and manage multiple relationships with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrates open and transparent communication and proactively seeks feedback and clarification when needed.
  • Experience of managing or driving improvement / transformation projects within a finance setting.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, meeting deadlines in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work independently and exhibit solid project management skills.
  • BS or BA is required, and an MBA or professional accounting qualification is preferred.
  • Prior experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry and/or in high-growth multi-national organizations is a plus.
  • SAP knowledge is a plus and high proficiency with Microsoft tools is required.
