Job Description

Position Overview

The Associate Director - Trade Strategy at Gilead Sciences is responsible for the development of new product channel strategies and modifications based on ongoing market dynamics. This includes the evaluation of long-term strategic plans for the Trade and Channel accounts (Wholesalers, Specialty Distributors, Retail/Specialty Pharmacies) and the implementation of channel programs in support of individual brand and access objectives. This role will involve collaborating with various internal stakeholders to ensure the effective execution of channel strategies that support Gilead’s brand and access objectives.

Reports to: Director, Trade Strategy – Market Access – Cross Portfolio. Based at our Foster City, CA campus. This is not a remote role.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Execution:

  • Lead the development of new product channel & distribution strategies, and modifications based on ongoing market dynamics.

  • Evaluate long-term strategic plans for Trade and Channel accounts, including Wholesalers, Specialty Distributors, and Retail/Specialty Pharmacies.

  • Implement channel programs to support individual brands and access objectives.

Internal Collaboration:

  • Serve as an internal point-of-contact for Marketing Brand leads and Managed Markets Strategy and Operations leadership.

  • Partner with Trade Account Managers, Trade Operations, Government Pricing, Finance, Payer Marketing, and Chargebacks to analyze, recommend, approve, and implement channel strategies.

  • Collaborate with Trade Contract Management and Trade Operations in negotiating and executing channel contracts.

  • Work closely with Auditing, Regulatory, Legal, and other partners to ensure fully compliant practices, policies, and procedures.

Performance Monitoring:

  • Identify appropriate metrics and KPIs in alignment with Trade Account Managers to monitor and measure the performance of Gilead’s distribution networks and agreements.

  • Monitor and measure the performance of Gilead's distribution networks and agreements using established metrics.

  • Analyze the flow of products and dollars across the distribution chain to optimize efficiency.

  • Utilize key healthcare-related datasets (e.g., 867, 852) to inform strategic decisions and performance evaluations.

Market Analysis and Reporting:

  • Attend outside meetings or conferences to monitor the competitive landscape and stay abreast of distribution trends.

  • Develop reporting requirements for new and existing channels and keep key internal partners and stakeholders informed about distribution trends.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree is a plus

  • 8+ years of related experience in in the biotech or pharmaceuticals industry

  • Previous experience in Managed Markets, specifically in the development and execution of distribution networks and channel segments, including Wholesalers, Specialty Distributors, Retail and Specialty Pharmacies, Hospitals, and Integrated Delivery Networks

  • Working knowledge of Managed Markets (e.g., flow of product and dollars across the distribution chain, government pricing regulations, typical contracting terms and approaches) as well as key healthcare related datasets (e.g. 867, 852)

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on cross-functional project management and issue resolution.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and Ten Years’ Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Eight Years’ Experience

The salary range for this position is: $177,905.00 - $230,230.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
