Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and highly creative researcher to join our Biologics Inventory team to provide easy access to biologics for internal and external customers. As part of the Discovery Sciences & Technologies (DST) department we support lead identification and optimization efforts. This position will be in the new state of the art Research facility at the Foster City, CA campus. This is a great opportunity for a lab scientist to use their biology and biochemistry training to manage our biologics inventory using an array of automation and instrumentation. We work with cross-functional teams at multiple sites within R&D as well as external CRO’s and collaborators. Our group is highly collaborative, and we support all Gilead research and exploratory projects across several therapeutic areas including virology, inflammation, oncology, and respiratory disease.

Knowledge, Experience And Skills

The successful candidate will use defined workflows for sample check-in, storage & retrieval, aliquoting, plate normalization, and shipping. The candidate in this lab-based role should have a strong background in Biology or Biochemistry. The candidate must be driven, resourceful, and able to work independently and display scientific curiosity and rigor. Excellent organizational skills in management of data, and internal and external collaborations, are essential. The candidate will participate in regular team meetings and formulate conclusions and strategies to advance Research project goals. Teamwork and excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage biologics inventory for Research; samples include antibodies, proteins, bio-conjugates, libraries, and plasmids
  • Receive and process samples into inventory from internal sources and CRO’s
  • Preparation of requested samples in plated formats using manual and automated systems
  • Use automation, liquid handlers, instrumentation, LIMS, and inventory management tools to process and dispatch samples
  • Ensure all lab and systems are properly maintained, serviced, and in good working condition
  • Cross train to enable occasional for support small molecule inventory operations
  • Accountable to meet established intake and dispatch timelines for all compounds
  • Prepare shipping manifests and documentation for domestic and international shipment
  • Maintain electronic lab notebooks for documentation

Education and Experience

  • BS with 2 years experience in Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline
  • Strong working knowledge of sample management, sterile technique, and logistics
  • Demonstrated proficiency with sample preparation using various liquid handlers and dispensers (Echo, Bravo, Biomek, i7, etc.)
  • Strong team orientation; highly collaborative and flexible
  • Resourceful and open to diverse points of view
  • Ability to provide high level of customer support and professionalism
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Microsoft Office

The salary range for this position is: $92,820.00 - $120,120.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
